Our Story

I started Agua y Sol to solve a problem I encountered almost every day after moving to Bacalar.

Bacalar became home and gave me a front-row seat to one of the most beautiful ecosystems I've ever experienced. Living here showed me both the privilege and responsibility that comes with enjoying fragile natural places.

Friends and family would come to visit, excited to experience the lagoons, culture, and natural beauty of the region. Yet I often found myself having the same uncomfortable conversation:

"Sorry, you can't wear sunscreen here."

The goal was to protect the ecosystem, but that often meant visitors spent long days under the tropical sun with limited protection. And the truth is, many still ended up with painful sunburns.

I knew there had to be a better solution.

That search led me down a path of researching performance textiles designed for sun protection, water activities, and hot climates. I spoke with locals and travelers, observed how people explored the region, and carefully considered what I wanted this brand to represent.

Agua y Sol was built to provide protection for people while encouraging respect for the places they visit.

The collection you see today combines UPF 50 sun protection, lightweight quick-dry performance, and original artwork created in collaboration with talented artists inspired by the wildlife and natural beauty that make these destinations so special. Each design celebrates the species and landscapes that travelers encounter when exploring remarkable places around the world.

While Agua y Sol was born in Bacalar, the mission extends far beyond one destination. Across the globe, travelers visit beaches, lagoons, reefs, rivers, and coastal communities that face similar challenges. We believe enjoying these places and protecting them should go hand in hand.

More than a shirt, each piece is a reminder that small decisions matter. The products we choose, the places we support, and the way we travel all have an impact.

Thank you for visiting our site and learning about what we do. If there's one thing I hope you take away from Agua y Sol, it's that protecting the places we love doesn't require perfection. It starts with small choices made consistently, and together those choices create meaningful change.
